FlexTech Offers Workshop on Energy Harvesting, Storage and Usage for Mobile Devices

Internet-of-Things requires a steady, reliable power supply

One of the basic tenets of the Internet-of-Things is a requirement for very little human interaction in maintaining a 24/7 operation – especially a steady, reliable power supply. This requirement is also apparent in devices that are inserted in hard-to-reach places and in small, mobile electronics, such as ultra-thin wireless tags and sensors, and medical devices. People are looking to these for no-fail operation and will depend on them for vital information about their health or environment.

These applications demand diverse capabilities, including sensing, signal processing, microcontroller, wireless I/O and user interface capabilities that are housed in a thin and flexible form factor. Are conventional power sources sufficient – if not, why not? What new technologies are emerging and how quickly can they come to market?

FlexTech’s workshop, “Energy Harvesting, Storage and Usage for Mobile Devices,” will be held Oct 29-30, 2013. The workshop brings together industry and academic thought leaders in power systems designs that will generate, distribute and consume power in ultra-small quantities with all of the elements required in flexible and printed electronics. The event will work its way from discussions on how to assess the technologies and markets for power solutions to details on new materials and what they bring to the manufacturing processes.
